i was the first to step into the office today at 7.58am.
traffic was smooth, with only a quarter of the usual number of cars on the roads. there were only 4 of us on the school transport bus today - the other 5 were on leave.
it's eerily quiet in the office corridors - many people aren't around today. and i'm just wondering how many students will turn up for my 11 to 1 class later. :(
ah. chinese new year's eve. the day that has many traditional housewives scrambling around the kitchen preparing for the reunion dinner. luckily for me, we always have a steamboat dinner at my parents' place (so i am spared the ordeal of slaving at the stove). since the cooking's done by us on the spot, mum busies herself in getting the fresh ingredients ready. we're usually joined by my youngest aunt and her family, so it's a small cosy affair.
and i haven't started work on inserting crisp new new notes into the red packets yet...
maybe it's the pregnancy, but i'm not really enthusiastic about CNY this year. possibly also cos my maternal grandma passed away less than 2 months ago and we're technically still in the mourning period (usually a year) though these days it's less traditional. still, there won't be dinners at my various uncles' homes.
most of hub's relatives won't be around either. a couple of them have gone overseas so there's going be less visiting.
it sure looks like it's going to be a quiet, toned-down CNY. perhaps i should bring home some of my toppling-over-the-table stacks of tests and assignments home to mark...
then again, maybe not.
